Narratives of Silence

Short film I made - very abstract - allowed me to test some ideas visually.

Reading the Body

'The body is a text. And we are all readers of it. And we go around, looking at this text, inspecting it like literary critics. Closer and closer for those very fine differences, such small these differences are, and then when that does work we start to run like a true structuralist, we start to run the combinations.

That is exactly what the function of invoking the body as if it is the ultimate transcendental signifier. As if this is the marker beyond which all arguments will stop, all language will cease, all discourse will fall away before this reality.'
-Stuart Hall

Analysing The Definitive Story

''Power is the ability to not just tell the story of another person, but to make it the definitive story of that person'' - Chimamanda Adiche

A rhizome doesn't begin and doesn't end, but is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo'-Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari

'other' or otherness
''-the notion of strangeness within the self -a person's deep sense of being, as distinct from outside appearance and their conscious idea of self.''-julia kristeva 'Strangers to Ourselves'

The antagonistic state of otherness: It struggles with two ways of being.
Always In-between two spaces, in-between two cultures, in between two ways of thinking.
The Rhizome space.

''The German word museal (museumlike) has unpleasant overtones. it describes objects to which the observer no longer has a vital relationship and which are in the process of dying. They owe their preservation more to historical respect than to needs of the present. Museum and mausoleum are connected by more than phonetic association. Museums are like the family sepulchres of works of art' -Theador W.Adorno, 'Valery Proust Museum'
Exiled space, between Lacan's notion of  'perception and consciousness'. The subconscious.
Between the real and the imagined.
